As a playwright / visual artist, I have returned to using my surrealistic and expressionistic paintings and two- and three-dimensional fantasy designs used for developing stage backdrops and scene props. Then draft my plays infusing the imagery developed for the fantasy worlds and the characters that I create to live in. In the past, I have had two equity musical theater productions, “Phantom of the 87th Street Playground” and “Bo! The Musical” produced at Bushfire Theater of Performing Arts in 1991 and 1993, and two comedy stage plays, “Likker Outta Control” and “Oops” have had productions at at Zeiders American Dream Theater. Also, readings at the International Black Theater Festival 2022 and 2024 by the Garland Thompson Sr. Readers Theater in Winston Salem, NC of “Oops” and “Insects and Giants”. My Spec Screenplays, “Angles in Hip Hop Land” and “A Playground Miracle” have won two Screenplay competitions and placed in fourteen Screenplay / Film Festivals. Currently, I am putting together a 40 painting show which I have approximately 30 paintings completed for a fifty year visual arts retrospect of my work starting as an early community muralist painting murals in Massachusetts, New Jersey and New York from 1971 to 1981 and in Norfolk, Va. from 2016 to 2021 when I taught the Mural Course at Norfolk State University where my students were responsible for painting 14 murals that they designed and executed under my training. I continue to use my art to teach playwrighting and screenwriting currently at Zeiders American Dream Theater where I started the Z Playwrights Lab and prior to that for eight years at the Attucks Theater where I started and taught the Attucks Writers Workshop.
